San Marzano Negroamaro Puglia 2023 750ml is a varietal Negroamaro grown near San Marzano di San Giuseppe in Salento, Puglia. The producer’s Il Pumo range draws its name from a traditional Puglian clay ornament associated with abundance. Negroamaro grapes from clay-rich, rocky soils are harvested in mid-September, then undergo temperature-controlled maceration and alcoholic fermentation for about ten days with selected yeasts. The wine is aged in stainless steel, preserving its direct fruit and varietal character. This 2023 release is a single 750ml bottle at 13.5% ABV / 27 proof.
Deep purple-red with dark violet reflections, the wine carries blackcurrant and wild-berry aromas with thyme and other savory spice notes. The palate is full-bodied, velvety and harmonious, finishing long and savory rather than heavily oaked. Its fruit-forward structure and gentle spice suit grilled meats, braised dishes, pasta with ragù or aged cheeses. The current package features the San Marzano name, Negroamaro and Puglia designation on a geometric white label beneath a burgundy capsule.
