Rare Hare 7-Year Blended Bourbon Whiskey combines seven-year Kentucky straight bourbon with American whiskey aged for more than seven years. Rare Hare finishes the blend with toasted French oak staves from Tonnellerie Radoux, a cooperage in France’s Cognac region, using the traditional boisé process to place the wood in direct contact with the spirit. Bottled at 50% ABV / 100 proof in a 700 mL format, the whiskey pairs mature American stock with a finishing technique intended to add French-oak nuance without obscuring its bourbon character.
The nose opens with soft vanilla and rich toffee, followed by earthy sarsaparilla, fragrant sandalwood, and a lift of pink peppercorn. Caramel and oak form the palate’s foundation, while stone fruit and roasted malt bring sweetness and depth; pink peppercorn returns with a measured flash of warmth. The texture is crisp yet velvety. On the finish, lingering vanilla and oak move into smooth cinnamon and toasted nuts, leaving the French-oak influence defined by spice, polish, and a restrained nutty close.
