Compass Box matures components in first-fill bourbon casks and custom virgin American oak casks, then blends them to emphasize honeyed fruit, toasted oak, and toffee. The whisky is presented at natural color and is not chill-filtered.
The process uses American oak barrels in two stages: first to give sweet spice to grain spirit, which completes maturation in other casks, and then to age malt whisky. Those grain and malt whiskies are combined with selected components to build a profile of sweet spice and toffee with the producer's honeyed fruit and toasted oak notes at the center.
