One of a handful of East Highland distilleries that carries a very particular malt-led character, ‘Fettercairn’ Distillery is situated in the town that shares its name, which in local dialect means ‘foot of the mountain’.
Much like its cousin distillery, Dalmore, the production process at Fettercairn starts by creating a particularly heavy, cereal-led wash, but during distillation cooling water is used – here using a cooling ring; at Dalmore using water jackets – which promotes reduction of heaviness within the final spirit.
Often brash and full of flavor, vintages from Fettercairn Distillery sip fantastically with a fine cigar.
