{"title":"Braeval","description":"Braeval is one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery was built in 1973 by Chivas. The distillery was originally called ‘Braes of Glenlivet’. Brae meaning ‘a hillside or slope’ in Scots. The area where the distillery lays was renowned for many illicit stills back in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. Braeval is the highest distillery in Scotland. It sits at 1665 feet above sea level beating Dalwhinnie Distillery that used to claim that title for many years by 100 feet. The distillery was mothballed in 2002 but was put back into production in 2008. Braeval has 6 stills, 2 wash and 4 spirit. They produce 4,000,000 litres of alcohol a year. There is not an official bottling of Braeval as all the whisky goes into blended scotch whiskies. The independent bottler Aberko produce a Braeval single malt at 10 year old and 15 year old and is labelled under Deerstalker single malts. House Style: Light, sweet, honeyish, with a zesty finish.
